Why Getting Your Mind Right As A Mom Will Make Or Break Your Motherhood Journey

Mindset, Mindset, Mindset

It feels like Everywhere you look nowadays there is someone telling you that whatever hard or seemingly impossible thing you’re trying to do requires you to have the right mindset. A positive mindset. A growth mindset. A gratitude mindset. Well it turns out that motherhood is no different. It is the absolute hardest job on the entire planet and requires so much work. Between the endless demands, sleep deprivation, and emotional load, it’s easy to lose yourself and fall into a pit of despair, overwhelm, or sadness. I’ve learned that your mindset as a mom isn’t just important, it’s everything.

It can be the difference between surviving each day and actually enjoying the journey.

In this post, I want to share why getting your mind right isn’t just helpful,  it’s absolutely necessary. And I’ll show you how to start doing just that.

A Happy Motherhood Starts In The Mind

The first and most important thing you have to do is understand and accept that no one is coming to save you and it’s up to you to save yourself from the despair, loneliness, and super hard mental blocks that come with this motherhood thing. Did you hear me? NO ONE IS COMING TO SAVE YOU! YOU’RE GONNA HAVE TO DO IT YOURSELF! I heard a mom say this once and all though it took me aback a little bit, I felt it in my spirit immediately and suddenly it clicked. Just like we can’t depend on and look for someone to make us innately and intrinsically happy within in ourselves, and we shouldn’t be looking outside for the happiness we crave inside because no human being has the power to do that for us, the same rings true in motherhood. We have to learn be content with ourselves with our new lives, roles, and identity as a woman with children. You’re just a girl in her mom era! A new day has dawned and the old days just simply aren’t coming back. And girl that’s okay! You are now stronger than you ever were, know more than you ever did, and have seen and done more than you ever knew you could. Hats off to you Mama!

Secondly, there is absolutely nothing that can’t be accomplished with prayer, gratitude, and some encouragement. I believe this whole heartedly because it’s how and why I’m still even here! A little bit of faith, a whole lot of grace, and a crap load of hard work will get you to the other side. The side where the happy, healthy, whole and fulfilled you lives.

So much of what we experience in motherhood is filtered through our thoughts. The way we think about ourselves, our children, and our circumstances can completely shape how we feel each day. If your inner dialogue is filled with guilt, shame, or self-doubt, it impacts your ability to parent with peace and presence. When your mindset is grounded in grace and perspective, you’re able to show up more fully for yourself and your family. It doesn’t mean everything is perfect, it just means that you’re not mentally beating yourself up while doing your best, and accepting your best as good enough.

You Can’t Pour from an Empty Mindset

We often hear, “You can’t pour from an empty cup,” and while that’s true, I believe it goes even deeper. You are the cup and in that cup is your mindset. When you’re mentally drained, the simplest things can feel overwhelming. Getting out of bed, managing routines, handling tantrums. It all feels heavier when your thoughts are heavy and you are troubled in your mind, which leaks into your spirit.

Our mindset as Moms gets tainted by mental clutter, unkind self-talk, and the constant pressure to “do it all”. It starts to slowly wear us down and make you miserable to be honest. Taking time to nourish your mind is just as important as caring for your body. It can change everything about how you move through your day and how you show up as a Mom.

Mindset Doesn’t Mean Toxic Positivity

Let’s clear something up: getting your mind right isn’t about pretending everything is okay when it’s not. It’s not about being grateful or saying you’re thankful for sh*tty things and circumstances. It’s not about slapping on a smile on hard days or ignoring your real emotions. It’s about creating space for hope, resilience, and truth. It’s about learning how to reframe negative thoughts and speak to yourself with kindness. It’s about choosing helpful thoughts over harmful ones, and knowing you are doing your best  even when things feel messy. It’s about choosing to focus on what is going right instead of only seeing what is going wrong.

When your mindset is healthy, you lead from a place of strength instead of survival. You become more patient, more creative, and more connected to the present moment. You don’t feel so buried by the chaos because your thoughts are anchoring you instead of sinking you. Motherhood becomes less about just making it through the day and more about finding little moments of joy and connection.

How To Shift Your Mindset (And Why you need a Mom manifesto)

Mindset shifts don’t happen by accident, they happen with intention. And one of the most powerful ways to begin is by creating your own Mom Manifesto.

A Mom Manifesto is a short, powerful statement of who you are, what you stand for, and how you want to show up as a mother. It’s a reminder of your values and vision, especially on days when you feel lost in the chaos.

Your manifesto could include affirmations like:

  • “I am enough for my children.”
  • “I lead with love, not perfection.”
  • “I give myself grace on the hard days.”
  • “I was made for this.”

By repeating your manifesto daily, you start to rewire the way you see yourself. You build belief, strength, and clarity. All things that help you feel more grounded and motivated as a mom.

This simple tool can become your go-to reset on the tough days. That’s why I included a space for your own Mom Manifesto inside this FREE Empowered Mom Guide. It’s not just about reading encouraging words, it’s about declaring your own.
